Poker News in Brief: Mar. 7-13, 2011
Heavy action online and The Big Event at the Bicycle Casino kept the PokerListings news team busy this week.
As a result, a few stories didn't get the front page play they deserved.
But fortunately, we've complied them below in our weekly Poker News in Brief feature.
This week, Phil Hellmuth heads to the Kentucky Derby, Facebook's Zynga Poker is in Las Vegas and more.
Titan Wins Customer Service Award
Titan Poker was awarded the 2011 Gambling Readers' Choice Award for Best Poker Customer Service this week.
This marks the fourth time the online poker site has won a Gambling Online Magazine award having taken home the Gold Award for providing the Best Online Poker Customer Service in 2006, 2007 and 2008.
"These awards reflect the thinking of the gambling public at large," a Gambling Online Magazine spokesperson said. "If the players themselves believe that a company offers a good service, it speaks volumes for how well a business is looking after its valued customers."
Hellmuth at the Derby
For the second consecutive year, The Louisville Palace is holding a charity poker tournament and celebrity welcome party the weekend of the Kentucky Derby. Hall of Fame coach Denny Crum and poker pros Phil Hellmuth, Jr. and Robert Williamson III will host the annual Derby Poker Championship May 5.
Proceeds from the event directly benefit Louisville-based Blessings in a Backpack and The Health & Climate Foundation.
Hellmuth will emcee and the event is expected to attract an array of other poker pros and celebrities.
In addition to the poker tournament, the event will also feature themed food and drink stations, music, live performance artists showcasing their skills and other Derby-esque entertainment.
The 2010 event drew 110 players in the tournament and approximately 200 spectators raising almost $50,000.
The tournament buy-in is $500+$50 with $200 re-buys and add-ons for the first hour of play.

Facebook poker giant Zynga is hosting its inaugural Zynga Poker fan event in Las Vegas this week and bringing a few familiar faces with it.
Zynga PokerCon will go off at the Palms Casino Resort March 18 and 19 and a host of poker legends will be attending, including Doyle Brunson, Scotty Nguyen, Gavin Smith, Antonio Esfandiari, Vanessa Rousso and Mike Sexton.
Zynga Poker fans who attend will also get the chance to take part in the Zynga Poker University led by Annie Duke.
Organizers say Zynga PokerCon will be a forum for Zynga Poker players throughout the world and include a live poker tournament with a $100,000 prize pool, professional poker instruction and exclusive parties.
Zynga Poker attracts 38 million players each month and 7 million every day.
